Briar Cliff University’s Agile Classrooms Boost Educational Excellence

Briar Cliff University in Sioux City has recently reopened two “agile classrooms” in Heelan Hall, marking a significant step forward in the institution’s commitment to educational excellence. This development has been made possible in part due to a generous $28,501 grant from Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) and a matching donation from alum Genevieve Nachtman. These classrooms are specially designed with modular furniture and advanced technology that enable seamless transitions between various teaching formats, including small and large group collaborations, lectures, and presentations. By fostering an adaptable learning environment, the university aims to better prepare its students to be effective and resourceful educators from their first day in the field.

Theresa Engle, Chair of the Briar Cliff Education Department, emphasized the importance of this investment, underscoring how the new agile classrooms play a pivotal role in enhancing both teaching and technology skills. According to Engle, these updated learning environments align with Briar Cliff’s objective of producing practice-ready educators who can thrive in diverse educational settings.
